AVL List GmbH (AVL)
AVL is the world's largest privately owned company for development, simulation and testing technology of powertrains (hybrid, combustion engines, transmission, electric drive, batteries and software) for passenger cars, trucks and large engines. AVL has about 3300 employees in Graz (Austria), including 1500 university graduates, and a global network of 45 representations and affiliates resulting in more than 7500 employees worldwide. Since Framework Programme 4, AVL has participated in more than 140 European RTD projects as partner as well as coordinator. For several years AVL has been successfully leading the FP projects, which support ERTRAC, the European Technology Platform for road transport. AVL is member of the private-public-partnership EGVI, the Joint Undertaking ECSEL (electronic components and systems) and the Fuel Cells and Hydrogen Joint Undertaking. AVL has a long tradition in research and development of particle measurement systems both for research and certification and is a very active player in the corresponding scientific and engineering community.
Role in the project
In the framework of the DownToTen project AVL will contribute to WP2 (Definition of key particle properties, emission and measurement conditions) as a result of the long term experience with the development of particles emission instruments both for the lab and on-road. Regarding the WP3 (Evaluation of Sampling Conditions and Measurement Set-ups) AVL has expertise in raw exhaust as well as diluted as well as PN-PEMS measurements for a large range of engine technologies in multiple regions (US, China, India, Japan, Europe). Furthermore, in WP4 (Testing Campaign according to the above) we have the necessary equipment and the experience to perform a series of tests both in the lab and on-road. In WP5 AVL contributes mainly to the metrology aspects with the in house calibration lines.
